Overview & Reviews
Only minor changes are made to Chevrolet's bread-and-butter Silverado pickup for 2002. Some options packages have been revamped for easier ordering and all extended-cab models now come standard with a four-speed automatic transmission, with the manual no longer available.
- Roomy extended cab models, strong V8 engines, available composite bed, disc brakes at all four corners, optional traction control.
- Cheap interior materials, sketchy build quality.

02 Silverado - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By My green Chevy - August 6 - 11:23 pmMy Silverado has been what I expected from it. Its quiet, runs well and rides well. I have not done any heavy hauling and it has not been used for towing. It has handled the heaviest loads of stones with ease. Power is a little lacking compared to others of the day. Like everyone says, interior is a joke but it has held up OK. I do like the leg room in the back. I wanted a Tundra at the time but the rear was way too cramped. MPG is OK for a truck but needs to be much better if GM wants to survive. Truck looks SO MUCH nicer than every model since 2002. GM designers need to be canned. They are really into UGLY vehicles across their entire product line.

BEWARE OF PISTON SLAP - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By jack, ashton - March 13 - 10:00 amgood overall but, defective engines, the 4.8, 5.3, 6.0, and more have defective pistons. go to website, gm piston slap. on start up sound like diesel engine, the pistons are banging up against cylinder walls. gm service bulletin 01-06-01-028. gm knows the problem, they WILL NOT FIX, says banging pistons is normal. lease do not buy. research the problem before buying. REMEMBER, GM WILL NOT FIX YOUR DEFECTIVE ENGINE.

Could/Should be better. - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By jzr1sy - September 21 - 12:30 pmGas mileage leaves a lot to be desired maybe due to the rear end ratio of 3.73 I could only order higher not lower. I do not pull anything. 3.42 would have been better. Has an annoying shake when shifting from first to second.

Sounds good on Paper,but... - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By jzr1sy - June 21 - 10:00 amMine is equipped with the Z71 option. Very annoying hesitation while in slow driving (heavy traffic)when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear followed by a hard shudder, then it shifts. Been to the dealer 6 times, tried many things, including replacing the transmission, to no relief. When factory representative drove it, he decided that since this problem is in other vehicles there was nothing he could do about it(New standard?). Shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear the same happens but to a lesser degree.

Not bad for a truck poor in quality - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By smokey - May 8 - 3:00 amPlastic, plastic, plastic. Have a quarter mile dirt drive not always in great shape. We try to drive over any bumps and lumps slow. Over $3000 worth of front end work needed just after the 3 year warranty ran out. Has needed two major tune ups both costing over $400 a pop. Has operated well in snow. Happy with 4 wheel. Pull a two place horse trailer seldomly. Even with the bigger engine, truck is a bit under powered for towing under its own ratings. Would not purchase again.
